In Philadelphia, winter holiday fun will begin as soon as Thanksgiving ends. On Friday, Nov. 28, the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest will return, offering plenty of family fun activities like ice skating, carnival rides, an indoor arcade and a holiday art show.
The holiday festival has been a tradition in the Philadelphia area for more than 30 years and is hosted and organized by the nonprofit Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC).
“For more than 30 years, the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink has been Philadelphia’s premier destination for skating, memories, and winter fun,” said DRWC president and CEO Joseph A. Forkin. “This season, our winter tradition expands to Cherry Street Pier with holiday shopping and art installations that invite everyone to make new memories and rekindle family traditions along the Waterfront. Thank you to our long-time partner, Independence Blue Cross, for helping us create a welcoming, accessible place where all can experience the spirit and joy of the season.”
Winterfest will begin with Opening Weekend on Nov. 28 through 30, with a holiday tree lighting on Dec. 5 and New Year’s Eve fireworks on Dec. 31. The festival will remain open until March 1, 2026.
The event is free to attend, but guests can purchase admission to the ice rink and rent ice skates, sign up for holiday art workshops and even rent a fire pit or cabin.
Winterfest guests may also be interested in the nearby Cherry Street Pier’s Artist Gift Guide & Holiday Art Show, which will be held from Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29 to Dec. 21. It’s a great opportunity to meet local artists and find unique, handmade gifts for everyone on your list.
