KidsPeace Celebrates 140 Years
Organization provides behavioral and mental health services for children
KidsPeace, an organization that serves the behavioral and mental health needs of children, families and communities through residential treatment programs, educational services and foster care and community-based treatment programs, is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year.
The organization offers residential treatment services in Pennsylvania, Maine and Georgia. The KidsPeace Psychiatric Hospital, for children and young adults experiencing severe mental and behavioral health crises, is located in Orefield, Pennsylvania. The organization strives to help people overcome challenges to successfully transition into adulthood.
KidsPeace, which originally started in the Lehigh Valley, held a presentation on Facebook live on January 31 to kick off a year-long commemoration.
According to a press release, there are many ways that KidsPeace is planning to celebrate its 140 years throughout 2022, which CEO Michael Slack detailed in the presentation.
The plans include:
- Expanding the history section on the kidspeace.org website
- Restoring and reinstalling and memorial plaque to honor supporters of the organization
- Presentations throughout the year about KidsPeace services including outpatient clinic and community services and therapeutic foster care
- A focus on the impact of COVID-19 on the mental and behavioral healthcare fields
You can watch the video presentation on the main page of the new “History” section of KidsPeace’s web site.
