Our September Mom is from Philadelphia. Meet Kheli:

Life at a glance:

Mom of Masieh, 8, and Samad, 2; Wife/best friend to Omar; Philadelphia Regional Coordinator for Parent to Parent of PA, an organization that links families with special needs together for support and information.

Your youngest son was born with a congenital heart disease. Has this experience inspired your current occupation?

Absolutely! My family experienced a lot of sadness and confusion during the beginning stages of my son’s diagnosis. It was the support of family and friends that we met during our hospital stay that got us through the rough times. After learning about Parent to Parent and their mission to promote the “parent voice” as a means of support, I knew this organization was something I wanted to be a part of. It's my turn to pay it forward. Learn more about Kheli's story on her blog.

Favorite family-friendly place to visit in or around Philadelphia during the fall season?

Super Heroes for the Day
There are no rules for this activity! Anything goes — grab some old t-shirts and plenty of art supplies. We love finger paints and foam cut-outs. Don’t forget the string to make some super-cool masks. When the capes and masks are finished, the whole family can put on a show after dinner.

Linvilla Orchards. Although we love the city, it’s nice to get a break and go outdoors. We love apple-picking season and the hayrides on a beautiful fall day!

What's your favorite thing about raising a family in the city?

We love the diversity of living in the city. Philadelphia is so rich in culture and history.
