Golden Slipper Camp

Our beautiful Jewish overnight camp located on 600 acres in the Poconos has been in the community for over 75 years! What makes us special, aside from the amazing activities and programs, is the Family vibe. Uncle Justin, our camp director, leads a group of counselors, lovingly referred to as Aunt and Uncle. Generations have active involvement at our camp in many capacities. Once at Slipper always at Slipper.

The Scarlata Family is a wonderful example. Jenn is currently the Camp Administrator.

When did you start with GSC?
My relationship began in 1997. I was the Family Services/ Childcare Director of another nonprofit. Overnight camping was a big part of my childhood and when I heard about the opportunity at GSC I was thrilled to be a part of it.

Why did you decide to send your girls to camp?
Overnight camp had given me some wonderful friendships and memories not to mention it prepared me for college and independence. I couldn’t wait to allow my daughters the same opportunity.

What is their favorite thing about GSC?
Life is so simple there, no stress or pressure from the outside world. No technology.

Your oldest now works at camp as well.
Rylee was a camper and a counselor at GSC and now as a student at Penn State majoring in digital media and marketing she was excited to take on the role of photography and social media. Rylee wanted to continue her GSC career because they all refer to it as “home”.

As a parent and staff, what makes this camp unique?
What stands out to my family are the friendships they have built that will last a lifetime including international ones. As a parent of multi-faith daughters, GSC has deepened their Jewish faith and identity and has led them to pursue Birthright and be active in Penn State Hillel.

Why should families choose GSC over the more expensive camps in the area?
It is truly a hidden gem. We offer generous scholarships that enable all income levels to attend camp. I love that GSC offers diversity, which most other Jewish overnight camps do not. Campers at GSC learn to respect and celebrate the differences in all people.

“I grew into the person I am today thanks to GSC. –Rylee Scarlata
