Ronald McDonald House Scholarship Program

As a parent who contemplated whether I’d need to take my pole dancing classes to the next level (yeah, right!), I know every little bit helps when it comes to the rising costs of college.

Being a Girl Scout helped The Teen tremendously. I also received help from my sister’s coworker when she held a private session for The Teen, The Teen’s friend and me to effectively search for available funds.

The advice I’d offer to parents who were not as diligent as they could have been about saving is that it’s never too late to look.

In 2014, Ronald McDonald House Charities will award 55 scholarships totaling more than $80,000 to local high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, financial need and plan on attending a two- or four-year college during the next academic year.

The RMHC of the Philadelphia Region with the support of the McDonald’s Owner/Operators of the Greater Philadelphia Region are seeking qualified applicants from the Greater Philadelphia Region to apply for one of four scholarships:

  • RMHC Scholars for high school seniors of all backgrounds regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.
  • RMHC/African American Future Achievers for students with at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage
  • RMHC/Hispanic American Commitment to Education Resources (HACER®) for students with at least one parent of Hispanic or Latino heritage
  • RMHC/Asian Students Increasing Achievement (ASIA) for students with at least one parent of Asian-Pacific heritage

For additional information, eligibility requirements and instructions to apply, click here. Keep in mind the deadline to apply is January 21, 2014.
