Resolve to Focus on Priorities in 2016

0

It’s that time of year again. For the past two years, I have picked a word that I wanted to be the centerpiece of my year.  A word to keep my year on track and streamlined. 2014’s Word of the Year was Better where I strived to be better. A better mom. Better my health. Be better organized. Just be a better person.

Last year, I picked a bolder word: Courage. Courage to grab life by the horns. Courage to to make my own opportunities. Courage to be a daredevil, a risk tasker and to march to the beat of my own drum.

And this year? Well, this year is going to combine the past two years.

Focus.

This word can mean so many things. Focus on myself. Focus on my family. Focus on my career. It’s so easy to get caught up in with what everyone else is doing. What they are saying. Where they are going. FOMO (fear of missing out) is real yo, whether you want to believe it or not.

You know what that does to you? It derails you. You take your eyes off your prize and onto someone else’s.

You know what you need?

Focus.

And that is just what I am going to do. I am going to focus on aligning myself with people who are good for me. That support me. That get me.

I am going to focus on what I want out of this blog. Things will get cut. Things will be added. In the end, this space (and myself) will be better for it.

I am going to focus on my family. It’s really easy to get sucked into social media and online life 24/7 365. And then where is your focus? Not where it matters most. This means more planned social media breaks. Keeping the laptop at home when we go on little family trips. And putting the phone down when someone says my name.

I am going to focus on myself. Mainly on the things that make me happy. I am going to focus on eating better. Moving more. And doing things that bring me joy.

When you put all of these things together, it will make my life better. It will take some courage to focus but the past two years have prepared me for the task this year.

To focus.
