March is Women's History Month and the month also marks the birthday of Pennsylvania. This weekend, discover women's and Pennsylvania history at local museums and sites that offer educational tours and other experiences for all ages.
At the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, you can learn about remarkable women throughout history during special shows, daily through the end of the month. You can also see Susan B. Anthony artifacts and view Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's judicial robe.
In Norristown on Sunday, the Historical Society of Montgomery hosts a colonial tea with "Abigail Adams." Reservations are required for this interactive history experience for adults and teens ages 13 and older.
Pennsylvania state historic sites open their doors free of charge on Sun., March 11 in honor of Charter Day, the anniversary of the granting of the Pennsylvania Charter to William Penn by King Charles II in 1681. In the Philadelphia area, you can celebrate the state's birthday at Graeme Park in Horsham or Pennsbury Manor in Morrisville with free tours and family activities.
Another low-cost history tour idea: on Saturdays in March, admission to Hagley Museum & Library in Greenville, DE is only $1 per person. This Brandywine riverside museum and site includes history and science exhibits, restored mills with working models and costumed interpreters depicting life in the late 19th century.
