From quaint carousels to topsy-turvy rollercoasters, there’s something for every member of the family at the region’s amusement parks and waterparks. This guide highlights what’s new for 2010 and the best rides for toddlers, teens and thrillseekers.

You can also visit websites to map out your day at the park and learn more about rides. “Plan with your children, in order of preference, what they want to be sure to do,” recommends Paula Pritchard, a spokesperson for Sesame Place.

Review park guidelines so you pack and dress accordingly. A few common rules: no outside food, bring babies in waterproof diaper covers and don’t wear bathing suits with rivets or zippers. When you arrive, “pick up a show schedule and park map at the entrance, so you can easily find your way around the park,” suggests Six Flags Great Adventure spokesperson Angel Aristone.

As a family, you can share the exciting experiences at an amusement park together. Enjoy the ride!
