July brings plenty of fun, outdoor activities for the whole family. Check out these festivals, art workshops and chances to interact with animals that are among some of the most exciting kid-friendly events happening in the area this month.

Barnes on the Block with Mural Arts Philadelphia & Our America Now

Part of Philadelphia’s annual Wawa Welcome America July 4th Festival, this free family-friendly block party will feature food trucks, art-making demos and readings from poets. Guests will also be able to enjoy free admission to the Barnes collection.

Soldiers, Sailors, Spies: Pick Your Role in the Revolutionary War
Thursdays in July, 2-3 p.m.
Virtual

The Museum of the American Revolution in partnering with the Satell Institute to offer weekly virtual programs for future historians ages 7-11. Participating kids will learn about all of the lesser-known roles that thousands of everyday people played in the Revolutionary War.

Meet Montgomery
July 9, 10-11 a.m.
Upper Schuylkill Valley Park, 1615 Black Rock Rd., Royersford, PA 19468

Children ages 3-7 are invited to meet Montgomery, the resident bald eagle at the Upper Schuylkill Valley Park. They will learn about the habitat and diet of bald eagles and receive a craft to take home.

Blueberry Festival

Linvilla Orchards is kicking off blueberry season with their annual Blueberry Festival. The day’s festivities include a blueberry pie-eating contest, kid-friendly entertainment from Silly Joe and costumed characters.

Butterfly Festival

Red Bank Battlefield, 100 Hessian Ave., National Park, NJ 08063

The whole family will enjoy this festival all about butterflies, bees and pollinators at Gloucester County’s Red Bank Battlefield. Activities include tours of the Butterfly House, free classes and a bug parade.

PECO Family Jams: Rolling River Prints with the Fabric Workshop and Museum

Facilitators from the Fabric Workshop and Museum will lead this month’s PECO Family Jams activity at the Philadelphia Magic Gardens. This family-friendly printmaking workshop will explore sensory experiences.

Free Library Dog Day Featuring Author/Illustrator Sarah Jacoby

The Parkway Central Library is hosting a dog-themed day in Shakespeare Park, located across the street from the branch. Families are invited to bring their dogs to meet children’s book author and illustrator Sarah Jacoby who wrote a charming book about a girl and her dog called Can I Sit With You?

Alex & the Kaleidoscope + City Love

The July show of Philadelphia’s Kidchella Music Festival features Alex & the Kaleidoscope, an interactive band for young children, and City Love, a West Philly-based social justice and music education group. The music festival curated for kids will include food trucks, giveaways and play time on the playground.

Philly Goat Project in Norris Square Park

As a part of their Summer of Wonder programming, the Kensington Library is bringing the goats of the Philly Goat Project to Norris Square Park. Children will be able to play, read and walk with the goats, as well as receive activities and craft kits.

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus presented by Upper Darby Summer Stage

The Upper Darby Summer Stage is bringing to life Mo Willems’ popular children’s book Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! in these musical performances at the end of July.
