Picnic and Play in Philly's Greenhouse Getaway in February

0

The Fairmount Park Horticulture Center is bringing back its pop-up summer oasis, Getaway at the Greenhouse, starting Feb. 1. Last year's debut was so popular, the free slice of summer will be here twice as long this year, continuing until Feb. 16 with kid-friendly activities and entertainment during the days and adult drinks, food and fun at night.

The 20,000 square-foot-greenhouse will once again have these warm-weather spaces:

  1. The Jungle – The spot for traveling zoos, kid rock DJs, face painting, and balloon artists
  2. The Beach – An oversized sandbox
  3. The Midway – Spot for food trucks and cash pop-up bar for adults at night
  4. The Lawn – Real grass for lounging and lawn games
  5. The Campground – Adirondack chairs and live music

The Jungle will also be home to Gaia, a 10-foot diamete globe made from NASA imagery of the Earth so kids can imagine what astronauts see from space.

Families are invited to BYOB (Bring Your Own Basket) for picnics during the weekdays. A wider selection of food and beverages is offered to visitors from food trucks as well.

This year, Philly PHLASH will offer free shuttle service from Fridays to Sundays from 10am with stops every thirty minutes at Love Park, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Please Touch Museum, and Horticulture Museum ending at 10pm Fridays and Saturdays and 7pm Sundays.

Admission is free, but visitors are asked to reserve a ticket for their planned day of visit. On sold-out days, visitors without reservations we be allowed in as space permits. You can reserve up to four tickets at a time and children 5 and under don't need a ticket.
