The acclaimed Metropolitan Ballet Company will hold auditions for its Boys Scholarship Program on Sat., June 9, starting at 9pm, at the Metropolitan Ballet Academy studio, 700 Cedar Rd., Jenkintown, PA.

Up to 15 boys ages 7-11 and 12-18 will be selected to receive a full year of weekly dance classes with Alexander Izilia, a former principal dancer with Pennsylvania Ballet. This year, 61 boys participated in the MBC program.

The weekly, tuition-free, boys-only classes include beginning, intermediate and advanced, ballet; partnering; and guest instruction in modern, jazz, and character dance. Classes are designed to enhance athletic skills, flexibility and strength.

Participants enjoy performance opportunities, including an invitation for eligible students to audition for Pennsylvania Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Classes will begin in September and continue through June 2013.  No prior dance experience is required.

Lisa Collins Vidnovic, a former Pennsylvania Ballet soloist and ballet mistress, founded the Metropolitan Ballet Academy in 1996. Three years later she launched the scholarship program as a way to make ballet accessible to boys in the greater Philadelphia region. The Metropolitan Ballent Company, a nonprofit pre-professional dance company affiliated with the Academy, was founded in 2001.

Walk-ins are welcome at the auditions. For more information, call Vidnovic at 215-663-1665 or visit www.metropolitanballetcompany.org .
