MetroKids Magazine wants to get to know our readers and is excited to introduce a new feature in our magazine that spotlights a mom living in our area. We ask her to tell what she likes best about where she lives, share some parenting insights and more.
Meet Teresa, our March Mom:
Family at a glance:
Married to my college sweetheart, Peter. Mother to one 5½-year-old little girl and two dogs — a Chihuahua and Jack Russell/Italian greyhound mix.
Any advice for raising a kindergartener?
Over the last several months I’ve watched my kindergartener blossom socially and educationally. I credit much of her success in kindergarten to not only mine and my husband’s commitment to be good, hands-on parents, but also to her preschool. Sending a child to preschool is definitely a personal choice, but I believe it can help immensely with the transition from school just a few hours a day to 6+ hours each day and the social skills required to be in a classroom of 20+ children.
Why her family looks forward to spring:
Definitely more time outside to kick the ball, ride bikes and walk the dogs. Also for planning and preparing our vegetable garden!
On family connections through creativity:
My daughter and I worked together to create, write and publish a book of recipes and activities for families with young children. Mom’s Recipe & Activity Guide: For a Life Filled with Memories & Simple Pleasures was inspired by my late mom, who always brought fun and creativity to our lives. I also wanted to raise awareness and funding for the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation. LMS is the cancer that took my mother in her early 50s. A portion of all proceeds is donated to the NLMSF.
