GalaxyCon, which holds fan conventions in major cities across the United States, recently announced its first-ever event in Philadelphia: Animate! Philadelphia, a convention focused on animated art forms, such as cartoons and anime.

It’s scheduled for Oct. 3 through Oct. 5 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.

“We’re really excited to bring our festival of fandom to the Philadelphia area for the very first time,” says Mike Broder, founder and president of GalaxyCon, in a news release. “Philadelphia has some of the most passionate pop culture fans who will really appreciate what our convention has to offer.”

Animation enthusiasts with young children will want to keep an eye out for the event, as admission for kids ages 9 and younger is free if they come with a paying adult. There will also be plenty of family-friendly activities available in a designated “Family Zone” — where kids who get overwhelmed by the crowds can chill out with crafts, games and more.

The younger and older alike can even meet the voices behind some of their favorite animated characters. The convention’s roster of special guests features voice acting icons like Roger Craig Smith (Sonic from “Sonic the Hedgehog”), Sarah Natochenny (Ash Ketchum from “Pokemon”) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (Monkey D. Luffy from “One Piece”).

The cast of Nickelodeon classic “The Fairly OddParents” will also make an appearance at a cast panel, as well as the voices of the titular roles in Disney XD’s “Phineas and Ferb.”
