Camp Firefly, an overnight camp for grieving children ages 7-14 at Camp Matollionequay in Medford, NJ, seeks volunteer counselors ages 21 and older. The camp, sponsored by the Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), will be held Aug. 27-Aug. 29.
Campers spend three days in a nurturing environment with grief professionals and volunteer counselors, as well as peers who have experienced a similar loss. Activities such as swimming, canoeing, hiking, arts & crafts and cookouts will be combined with bereavement activities designed to help the children to cope with the loss of a loved one.
Adult volunteer counselors will stay at Camp Matollionequay during the 3-day, 2-night period, participating in all activities with an assigned group of children. Junior counselors ages 16-20 are being sought to help on-site during the camp. Young volunteers, ages 14 & up, work in the offices of Moorestown VNA, preparing materials for the camp weekend.
