MomSpeaker Lindsey Schuster gets her Seuss on, enumerating in verse the countdown of a mother's day.
I spent 25 minutes folding the laundry,
Answered 24 “But why?” questions in our 3-year-old’s quandary.
Picked up 23 Legos that spilled from the bin,
Planted 22 kisses on cheeks, nose and chin.
Threw 21 pitches, but got only one hit,
The 20 other times, I dealt with a fit.
I sang 19 verses of "Wheels on the Bus,"
“Where do babies come from?” I was asked to discuss.
I said “No” to each kid on 18 occasions,
17 times I surrendered to persuasions.
We used 16 pillows to make a fort,
We shot 15 hoops on the basketball court.
It took 14 whole seconds for the kids to find me,
When I snuck upstairs to change over the laundry.
I snapped 13 buckles, yet drove only 12 miles,
Spent 11 minutes chasing toddlers down grocery store aisles.
I cherished 10 measly minutes of time alone,
A 9-minute nap??? . . . (insert long groan).
At least 8 times, the counter was wiped,
7 was the number of words of this poem I could type . . .
Before MOMMY was shouted 6 octaves too high,
5 seconds was the length of my dramatic mom-sigh.
I wiped 4 hineys and bandaged 3 scrapes,
I made 27 pieces out of 2 whole grapes,
Yes, this is ONE day in the life of a mother,
One snapshot of time that is like no other.
They days are long and exhausting, HOWEVER,
Part of me wishes this would last forever.
