Mom, it’s your weekend! Celebrate Mother’s Day at a garden, an afternoon tea and more.
Visit a garden — for free! Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill, Shofuso Japanese House & Garden in Phila.’s Fairmount Park and Tyler Arboretum in Media are among gardens throughout nation offering free admission on Friday, May 6 during National Public Gardens Day. Log on to the Better Homes & Gardens website to download and print a coupon good for free admission for two at participating gardens. Special programs for all ages — from preschoolers to grandparents — include scavenger hunts and other discovery activities at Tyler, along with kite-flying and an afternoon guided garden tour at Longwood. Longwood also has Mother’s Day brunch and other special activities throughout the rest of the weekend, although regular admission is charged.
Enjoy gifts and discounts. Moms accompanied by their kids receive a free round of mini golf at Franklin Square all weekend, free admission to Sahara Sam’s Oasis Indoor Water Park on Sunday, a free tote bag at Eastern State Penitentiary on Sunday and free flowers at Adventure Aquarium on Sunday. Adventure Aquarium also offers $10 reduced admission for everyone on Sunday, and the Bank of America Museums on Us program offers Bank of America cardholders free admission to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Please Touch Museum, Winterthur and more local museums.
Attend an afternoon tea. Sip teas and enjoy quality mother-daughter time at The Betsy Ross House in Phila., Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation in Media, The Cauffiel House and Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington and the Wayne Art Center. Some require reservations, so call now to save your spot.
Go to a festival, such as the 91st annual Wilmington Flower Market, Colonial May Fair in Pottstown, Towamencin Day in Montgomery County and Dover Days in Delaware.
