MetroKids Wins Two Parenting Media Association Awards
Mid-Atlantic Media publication MetroKids won two awards in the Parenting Media Association Design and Editorial Awards Program.
The awards recognize excellence in family publications across the U.S. in 2022. Publications are awarded gold, silver and bronze awards in two categories: small or large publications.
MetroKids was recognized in the small publication category.
Former staff writer Eleanor Linafelt won bronze for her “Top 10” in the Calendar of Events category.
“This calendar approach winnows down the possibilities and directs parents to just the most interesting options for the month. The result each time is a list chosen carefully so that all the items seem like something a parent would eagerly want to do with their kids,” judges write.
Designer Carl Weigel was also recognized with a bronze award in the Front Cover: Use of Stock Photo category for an August 2021 cover.
“While most of this cover is black and white,” judges note, “there are dabs of strong colors in the books that are echoed in the ‘Back to School’ headline. The subject leads viewers to the teases and frames the page. The direct eye contact makes it hard to look away.”
