Make a Day of It: Narberth, PA

Go, eat, craft, shop, search

This tiny MontCo haven of Narberth, PA packs a huge amount of family fun into its walkable half-square mile.

GO: Drive and jockey for metered street parking (.25 cents for an hour) or hop on one of the twice-an-hour R-5 Paoli/Doylestown line SEPTA trains to Narberth Station on Elmwood Avenue.

EAT: Maido. Take advantage of two things kids love — lunch counters and Japanese noodles — by sampling authentic yakisoba and more at this market that’s so popular, it runs a shuttle bus in and out of Center City every Saturday. (36 N. Narberth Ave.)

CRAFT: There are two great Narberth make-and-take studios. Repurpose found objects into masterpieces at Sweet Mabel (41 N. Narberth Ave.). And learn knitting, sewing, design and more at The Handwork Studio (35 N. Narberth Ave.), which starts a five-week Fashion Workshop with Project Runway All-Star April Johnston (pictured here at the MK Super Camp Fair) on March 9 at nearby Rosemont College.

SHOP: Character Development. This kids’ book/toy/gift shop appeals to its demographic both in its hand-selected inventory and its enchanted environs, tricked out with a puppet tree, play kitchen and musical instruments section. (209 Haverford Ave.)

SEARCH: The Great Narberth Leprechaun Hunt is no blarney. On March 15, from 1-4pm, kids pick up a game card and empty pot ’o gold (go to the booth at the corner of Forrest and Haverford Aves.), then search shops to find hidden leprechauns and collect chocolate coins. Ten coins gets a prize.
