Battle of Cooch's Bridge Marker, The

Old Baltimore Pike & Old Cooches Bridge Rd., Newark, DE United States
DE - New Castle County
Category: History Museums & Sites

The only battle of the Revolutionary War to take place in Delaware, the clash (also known as the Battle of Iron Hill) was an attempt to thwart the British from reaching Philadelphia; it’s also believed to be the first time the Betsy Ross flag was flown in battle. The original bridge did not survive the Revolution, but cannons and a monument mark the site and pay tribute to the fallen soldiers.
