Kid-Friendly Events This Weekend: Nov. 19-21

There’s a wide assortment of things to do this weekend. Multiple holiday light shows open this weekend, featuring family-friendly attractions. There are also lots of outdoor activities include a full moon hike and walk to hear owls.

A Longwood Christmas
Now-January 9
Longwood Gardens, 1001 Longwood Rd., Kennett Square, PA 19348

Longwood’s holiday light show opens today. Half a million lights are strung throughout these beautiful gardens decorated with this year’s theme of “Fire, Ice, and Everything Nice.” Also enjoy lanterns and fire pits alongside a frozen succulent fountain and alpine waterway.

Full Moon Hike
November 19, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Norristown Farm Park, 2500 Upper Farm Rd., Norristown, PA 19403

Ages 8 and up are invited to participate in this ranger-led two-mile hike through Norristown Farm Park under the nearly full moon and starry sky. You may even have the chance to see nocturnal animals!

Wild Lights
November 19-December 30, 5-9 p.m.
Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd., Norristown, PA 19401

Wild Lights, a favorite family tradition at Elmwood Park Zoo, is opening this weekend. Not only will your family be able to see new lights and decorative attractions at the zoo’s light show, you’ll also be able to have unique animal encounters and even a chance to see Santa. There will even be live entertainment, performances and holiday music.

History Explorers Club: Evacuation Day
November 20, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Virtual, Museum of the American Revolution

Ages 7-11 are invited to learn about Evacuation Day, a day when the British Army officially left New York City.

Kids’ Wellness Day
November 20, 3 p.m.
Children’s Department at Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine St., Philadelphia, PA 19103

All are welcome at this free multigenerational outdoor event. Join the library and author Stacey Woodson, MS, RD, LDN for an afternoon of food, reading, movement cooking and activities. Attendees will be able to purchase a copy of Woodson’s book Delicious and Nutritious: The Princess of Picky Eating Tries New Foods and get it signed by the office. Originally planned for November 13 and rescheduled due to weather.

Owl Prowl
November 20, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Norristown Farm Park, 2500 Upper Farm Rd., Norristown, PA 19403

This special family walk for all ages will take you on a search for owls. Participants will learn basic owl facts, touch feathers and hopefully hear the sounds of a wild owl.

Kids on the Canal: Those That Came Before

This month’s Kids on the Canal Day theme at the National Canal Museum explores the groups that settled in the region from native Lenape people to recent arrivals

Keepers of the Culture – Once Upon a Family: Stories of Diverse Families
