This weekend has plenty of fun (and free!) events for your family. From library-hosted summer celebrations to exciting museum events to fun ways to get into nature, there’s no chance you’ll be bored this weekend.

Summer Party in the Garden
August 13, 2-4 p.m.

Join the Holmesburg Library for a fun celebration of summer reading in their garden which will include story time, outdoor games, snacks and ice cream.

Bug Fest 
August 13-15
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy., Philadelphia, PA 19103

This year’s Bug Fest includes both in-person and virtual programs. Kids can see insect displays and roach races and meet entomologists.

Lard Dog and the Band of Shy + Larissa Hopwood Band

Don’t miss out on the last show of this year’s Kidchella, a local music festival for kids. Lard Dog and the Band of Shy, a one-of-a-kind New York-based performance group, and the local Larissa Hopwood Band will be closing out the season with upbeat music made for children.

ZooSnooze

The whole family is invited to sleep over at Elmwood Park Zoo as a part of ZooSnooze, an exciting overnight event complete with meals, a flashlight tour, campfire activities and an educational show.

Peril’s Island

Shakespeare in Clark Park, an organization that brings professional productions of Shakespeare’s plays to Philadelphia’s parks, is presenting Peril’s Island in North Philadelphia this weekend with contributions from community members.

Finish out the Free Library’s Summer of Wonder programming with this outdoor event featuring live music, free books and a fun activity.

Sunflower Festival

Kids will love going on wagon rides, meeting barnyard animals, playing games and, of course, picking their own sunflowers at Shady Brook Farm’s sunflower festival.

Goats to Historic Fair Hill for “Grow Your Own Food” Event

Read and walk with the Philly Goat Project’s goats and participate in the “Grow Your Own Food” event at Historic Fair Hill.

Porch Performance: Colonial Frolick

Performers Stacy Roth and Bob Dupre will present rhymes, songs and riddles from the 17th-to-19th centuries. Featuring a variety of old-fashioned instruments, including penny whistle, limberjack and fife, this is an all-ages, interactive show.

Free Summer Sunday at The Penn Museum

Guests can enjoy both self-guided audio tours and staff-led tours at this free admission day at The Penn Museum. There will be gallery games, scavenger hunts and I SPY activities for kids to explore world history.
