We just got back from this year's Parenting Media Association conference, an annual get-together of editors and publishers of 90 regional parenting mags nationwide. It's always great to see our peers from other cities, to discuss parenting trends and brainstorm innovative ways to serve you, our readers, better in the months and years to come.
We came away with some fantastic ideas to do just that, so keep reading! In the meantime, we've got some big news to share.
MetroKids won a quartet of editorial awards at the conference. The PMA Awards competition, which recognizes excellence in journalism on an annual basis, is judged by an impartial panel of judges from the influential University of Missouri School of Journalism, experts whose high level of professionalism and experience make any and every win even sweeter. This year, MetroKids won medals in the categories of:
- Family Fun
- Best Blog
- Editor's Note
- Reviews
Kudos to the team behind these columns:
- Our fantastic (and growing) roster of MomSpeak bloggers, who provide insight, understanding and humor every parent can appreciate every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you're not following along, you should be! Bookmark us.
- Our intrepid book and music reviewers: Frank Lipsius, whose kid-lit reviews can be found here, and the mighty Kathy O'Connell, whose expertise in and passion for kindie music is (as everyone who listens to Kids Corner can attest) second to none. Click here to sample what she's listening to these days.
- Resource Editor Allison Ebner, keeper of MK's Family Fun keys, who works tirelessly to let you know not only where to take your kids but why you should go there. We do this through many avenues, including our monthly Family Fun column, our Day-by-Day Calendar of kid-happy events and our Weekend Planner eblast, which delivers news about the weekend's best (and often FREE) family activities directly to your inbox every Thursday afternoon. Don't make another weekend plan without signing up to receive it.
As humbled and excited as we are by our success this past weekend, we're not about to rest on any laurel. We've got big plans to make MetroKids an even stronger resource for your family, and we'd love to hear about what you'd like to read in our pages and on our website. Feel free to email me with story or community ideas at any time. We value your readership and input more than you could know.
