Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Celebrate the March 2 birthday of the iconic storyteller with special storytimes and character appearances all weekend long.

The Doylestown Bookshop presents a Seussical Celebration on Fri., March 2 at 6pm with a reading of The Lorax, live music, snacks and tips on environmentalism for kids.

The Norristown Library also hosts Dr. Seuss readings and fun for kids throughout the day on Friday.

A Dr. Seuss Birthday Party at The Little Treehouse in Chestnut Hill on Sat., March 3 at 10am features a storytime and a book giveaways. Kids can also make their own hats and nibble on Cat in the Hat cupcakes.

March 2 is also Read Across America Day, a holiday that encourages reading to children. So take the books (Seuss or otherwise) off the shelf and follow these tips for fun and successful reading time with your kids.

The new movie Dr. Seuss' The Lorax opens this weekend and on Saturday, you can meet and take photos with The Lorax live at the Treehouse at the Philadelphia Zoo, every hour on the hour, 10am-2pm. Families can also enjoy readings of the Dr. Seuss story. If you can't make it this Saturday, The Lorax will be back at the Zoo next Sat., March 10.

The Philadelphia International Flower Show opens on Sun., March 4. Stop by the Family Lounge at 2pm on Sunday for a special storytime with Lisa Nutter, wife of the mayor, and a character from the movie Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. A similar storytime takes place next Sun., March 11 too, with MetroKids music reviewer and WXPN Kids Corner host Kathy O'Connell.

Beyond the weekend, you can enjoy a Dr. Seuss story during the Wed., March 7 WOW! Wee Ones at Winterthur program near Wilmington, DE, and a Seuss trivia game at the West Deptford (NJ) Library, Sun., March 25.
