Hand-held foods on the go
Let's face it: we are busy people! As much as we all want to slow down, stay home more and relax….we just don't. I've been traveling most of the summer and it's been fantastic, but I can see how being away so much affects the whole family. One thing that I try really hard with is making sure my kids are eating healthy foods, even when traveling.
A few weeks ago the boys and I spent 16 hours in the car alone — YIKES! We were traveling from Southwest Florida to West Virginia and I wanted to do it straight through. Parents tend to stop at the nearest fast food places for meals because it's fast and convenient. Most of the time I don't think they really want to purchase highly processed foods, but they have no idea of what other options there are to feed their family. With a little organization and extra time you can feed your family on the road healthy foods that will satisfy everyone.
The day before we left I went to the local Whole Foods Market and Target and picked up some of our favorite to go foods.
Trip meals for ON THE GO!
Happy Family squeezables
Mixed dried fruit with nuts
Happy Family Happy Time snacks
Fresh fruit and veggies (carrots and celery)`
Now if we were starting our trip off at home I would have had more homemade choices, such as homemade granola bars, banana bread, muffins and smoothies, but we were no,t so we had to purchase most of it. When purchasing packaged foods, the best thing you can do is educate yourself so you can make good choices. All the foods I purchased are Non GMO and certified organic, and I can feel good about giving these products to my family. To learn more about what foods are safe for your family go to the NON GMO Website.
So the trip was a success. At the end of the trip I asked my youngest what his favorite part of the trip was and he said that he got to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the car. Now our car was a huge mess but isn't every car after a road trip?
