Free Kids' Earthquake E-Book

To help parents and teachers use the Chile and Haiti earthquakes a learning opportunity, Sylvan Dell Publishing has made a narrated e-book, Panda’s Earthquake Escape, available free during March.
This fictional story for ages 4-8, written by Phyllis J. Perry with illustrations by Susan Detweiler, is based on a real event — the escape of a giant panda from a reserve in Northern China after a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck in 2008.
A six-page education section in the back of the book, mainly for older kids, includes sections on endangered giant pandas and on the causes, measurement and locations of earthquakes. A 50-page learning guide with numerous teaching activities is also available free.
