Whether you need fun summer party games or new ideas for staying cool when temperatures soar, the following eight DIY water games will keep your kids refreshed and entertained all summer long.

DIY Sprinkler

Why buy a sprinkler when you can make your own? This DIY hack from the Housing A Forest blog uses materials you can find around your home, and it’s easy enough for kids to help you. Drill holes in an old bottle, tape it to your garden hose and then watch as water sprays in different directions for your kids to run through.

Frozen Paint Cubes

While this summer art project requires a bit more planning, it yields fun, colorful results. Give kids a theme or let them design their own masterpiece as the frozen paint melts under the hot summer sun. You can easily make your own paint cubes with simple directions from the Hands On As We Grow blog.

Spray Bottle Freeze Tag

Fill spray bottles or water blasters and let your kids and their friends try to “tag” each other by spraying water at one another. Whoever gets hit has to freeze until another teammate sprays them again. Read up on the rules from the blog.

Tricycle Car Wash

Using PVC pipe, sponges and pool noodles, you can help kids create a car wash for their tricycles, bikes, scooters and more.

Water Balloon Piñata

Ziggity Zoom switches out the traditional piñata for colorful water balloons. It may take a few hits, but the surprise when the balloon finally explodes over your kids’ heads adds to the fun.

Water Balloon Volleyball

Forget your typical water balloon fight. This summer game from the It’s Always Autumn blog is much more creative. Kids can practice teamwork as they use a towel to launch their water balloons over a net and try to splash their opponents.

Water Blob

Using only plastic sheeting, duct tape and a hose, you can create a giant bag of water for kids to slide, jump and lie on all day long. We love these instructions from the Fabulessly Frugal blog.

Water Obstacle Course

Putting together an obstacle course takes time, but it gives you the chance to combine various fun activities that will keep your kids entertained throughout the day. Explore the Meaningful Mama blog’s ideas for some exciting water obstacle course inspiration.
