DIY Crafts

Websites that inspire

March is National Craft Month. The area’s home to tons of great make-and-take art studios and craft centers (search them by location here), but busy schedules often mean that crafty parents have to DIY during their off-hours. Here are a few of our favorite past-Pinterest sites that teach and inspire 24/7. (Though we certainly love Pinterest — check out our fun boards).

CraftGossip.com curates blog posts on a wide range of handmade how-tos, from bath & body to candlemaking, polymer clay to recycled crafts, scrapbooking to party décor. Scroll through the day’s grab-bag or search by category.

ABeautifulMess.com is a home-improvement go-to, with chic DIY décor ideas (think hand-stamped cloth napkins, light-up headboards and retro-phone book ends). Bonus points for the style menu with hair and makeup tips.

If your skills need a brush-up, both Craftsy.com and CreativeBug.com offer fee-based video classes taught by nationally known instructors in sewing, quilting, calligraphy, cake-decorating, knitting, crocheting, drawing, painting, gardening, jewelry-making, paper crafts. . . . The segments are professionally shot and doled out in manageable segments you can master.
