The Philadelphia chapter of clothing insecurity nonprofit Cradles to Crayons (C2C) is holding its annual Spring Greening Donation Drive through April 25, and locals are encouraged to donate children’s clothes to its 16 collection sites throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. The clothing drive presents an opportunity for parents to put new and gently used clothes and shoes their children may have outgrown to good use by donating it to clothing-insecure families.
Clothing insecurity is a problem faced by thousands of families across the U.S. C2C estimates that in the Greater Philadelphia area specifically, 3 in 5 families have to contend with not being able to afford or access clothing.
This is not due to a lack of clothing being produced, either — Americans dispose over 17 million pounds of textiles each year, which often sits in landfills or is shipped overseas. C2C also aims to address this issue by diverting clothing that does not fit the organization’s quality standards from landfills.
Clothes can be donated until the end of the day on April 25 at the following locations:
