Take the Kids: Wildwood, NJ

What to do down the shore

With its famous boardwalk and plenty of beachy-keen sand-and-surf activities, Wildwood is a shore family-fun bet.

Thrill the fam: Morey’s Piers' three jam-packed amusement- and water-park piers offer classic seaside rides, roller coasters and slippy slides for all ages. (3501 Boardwalk)

Sun (safely!): Wildwood’s white-sand beachfront, home to family summer events like sand-castle contests as well  as a dedicated doggie beach, is free for all visitors — no passes needed. Don’t forget that sunscreen!

Float: Swifter than the typical whale watch, the Silver Bullet Speedboat skims you out on the ocean to spot dolphins in rip-roaring fashion. (508 W. Rio Grande Ave.)

A-maze: The Wildwood Mirror Maze in the Palace of Sweets lets visitors wander a chocolate-scented funhouse labyrinth, dodge lasers and compete in challenge games, all ending at a self-serve candy bar. (2701 Boardwalk)

Dig in: The ’50s-themed Doo Wop Diner serves up burgers, jumbo dogs, fries, malts, sundaes and other kid-pleasing fare in fine retro style. (4010 Boardwalk)

Pedal: Work off the grub by cycling the island’s 5-mile, ocean-view bike path. Bring your own wheels or rent at Zippy’s Bikes. (3900 Pacific Ave.)

Shred: The obstacle-laden skate park at Albert I. Allen Memorial Park is adjacent to an observation pier overlooking the marshes. (2200 Delaware Ave.)

Putt: The indoor Dragon’s Lair castle-themed mini golf track, illuminated in black light, presents neon-bright putting challenges. (3616 Boardwalk)

Chew: What’s a trip to the shore without some salt water taffy? Douglass Fudge pulls fresh flavors from a century-old family recipe. (Wildwood Ave. & the Boardwalk)
