Big Bang Boom and Caspar Babypants
CD: Because I Said So!, Big Bang Boom
North Carolina rockers Big Bang Boom make big noise with their third family CD, Because I Said So!, released this month. I love the trio’s country-tinged, upbeat rock rhythms and the slightly subversive fun of their lyrics.
Clever wordplay sparks “Hippie Mom,” about a parent whose “incense hangs in the air, and tapestries hang everywhere.” As their earlier “The Stand-Up Song” reimagined Simon Says, “Green Light!” puts a whole new spin on a classic kids’ street game.
"Make Me," from Because I Said So
"Big Bang Boom" from the album Why Can't I Have Ice Cream
SONG: “Summer Baby (Let it Ride)” from Hot Dog, Caspar Babypants
Before you pack this summer away, enjoy a rocking daddy/baby love song. Caspar Babypants (aka Chris Bellew from The Presidents of the United States) writes love songs for parents and for parents and kids, all within the same songs!
The tune is from his new CD Hot Dog. His website includes the stories behind each of the album’s songs.
EVENT: Kids Corner Music Festival
After a summer recovering from hip surgery, my first fall event is our Kids Corner Music Festival on Sept. 22. We’ll fill Wilmington’s World Cafe Live at The Queen with families enjoying kids’ indie superstars Lunch Money, local favorites Alex & The Kaleidoscope Band and rockers KinderAngst. I love the focus on harmonies in all three very differently wonderful bands. Find ticket information at Kidscorner.org.
"Spicy Kid" by Lunch Money
"Snowy Day" by Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band
