Halloween Music & More
A kids' Halloween playlist and kindie goodness
(page 2 of 2)
Outstanding kindie clusters dot the landscape. Midwestern family musicians include Kansas City’s Jim Cosgrove (aka “Mr. Stinky Feet”) and Chicago’s treasure trove of Justin Roberts, Poochamungas and Laura Doherty. Several of these artists came together to produce Band Together: A Chicago Kindie Music Sampler to benefit music education programs in the Windy City. These rarities from Jeanie B!, Istvan & His Imaginary Band and Little Miss Ann (aka Ann Torralba) are just as catchy here in the Philly area.

CD: Follow Me by Little Miss Ann
Speaking of Little Miss Ann, her Follow Me CD blends rocking sensibilities and complex guitar licks starting with the first song, a cover of Wilco’s/Woody Guthrie’s “Someday, Some Morning, Sometime.” The whole album maintains that indie folk-rock sound, buoyed by outstanding production and an enthusiastic delivery. Hers is a low-key, imperfect “Mom” voice that wraps the listener in love. These are simple songs, aimed at younger listeners yet aware of parents’ more sophisticated ears. “Two’s Today” is a differently delightful counting song that reminds “We are all really smart today.” It’s a fun CD that will bear multiple listening with minimal adult nerve damage.
Concert: The Billy Jonas Band
Billy Jonas’ first CD in five years is cause for celebration: Build It Back Again continues Billy’s “musical conversation,” where the audience becomes part of the band. Get in on the act and support Briar Bush Nature Center at his CD release concert, Nov. 2 at Bryn Athen’s Mitchell Performing Arts Center.
