Songs Give Hope to Bully Victims

Album: Big Bully (various artists)

Songs can’t stop bullying, but may give victims hope. The Recess Music label premieres a new Best Foot Forward Series with Big Bully, a collection of songs that address bullying directly without wading through metaphors. “People who are mean have lower self-esteem” says the opener tongue-twister, “Bully Bubba” by the Uncle Brothers.

The Hipwaders’ “Time In Time Out” laments “that voice that says ‘disregard, disrupt, disrespect, disobey.’” “Wishing Well” by Renee & Jeremy is a beautiful litany of “I wish you well” that merits use in classrooms.  The anthology features big names in kids’ music (Milkshake) and longtime folkies (Nancy Tucker) among musicians raising their voices in support of kids.  Add Recess Music to your “go-to” list of labels worth finding.
