Where you go when the weather’s warm, and to play!

Coverdale FarmCoverdale Farm

Greenville, DE

"Coverdale is a beautiful working farm that allows children up-close, hands-on experiences with farm animals and agriculture in a spectacular setting. They have regular programs that are open to the public throughout the year. The Harvest Moon Festival in October is terrific, but the farm is best when you're there with a small group for a class or workshop." – Wendi J., Newark, DE

"I like the animals when we go to the farm." – Darren, age 2

Falls Township Community Park

Levittown, PA (Bucks County)

“This park is beautiful! Always clean, lots of playground room and restrooms close by. Amazing lake and a lot of ground to walk around and enjoy! Also, there’s a volleyball court that is not used much — so the kids enjoy it as a big sand box. My son Jonathan says he loves to play in the sand and see how high he can go on the swings.” — Cheryl G., Levittown, PA

Fischer’s Park

Towamencin Township (Montgomery County)

“Just a few minutes from home and my favorite place for my family to walk our dog on sunny evenings! You can take different trails depending on how long you want to walk. Many trails are stroller-friendly and there are two playgrounds for kids. (The swing sets are fun for adults, too!) Park feels intimate but offers so much for the whole family — walking, fishing on the creek, picnicking in the pavilions, even a baseball field.” — Mary H., Kulpsville, PA

6th & Race Sts., Phila.

“This is the most convenient place to play mini golf in Philly. The shake shack there is fabulous — worth the trip even if you do not have time for the golf!” — Ben L., Phila.

“This park is incredible, it has a mini golf course and a real carousel. You can have a picnic. They have cool water fountain. I love going to this park. I recommend this place to everyone!” — Myra M., Phila.

Hancock Playground

W. Master St. & Hancock St./N. Mascher St., Phila. • 215-685-9886

“My oldest daughter calls it our secret playground. It is very clean and safe and no one is hardly ever there. It has cushioned mats under the playground area, as well as on all swings for the older kids and babies, so even my youngest can play. Our favorite thing is to spin on the ground spinner, which is even fun for Mom to have some childhood memories.” — Theresa C., Phila.

John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove

Audubon, PA (Montgomery County)

“We’ve been going to Mill Grove for years. I remember hiking the trails and picnicking under the blooming trees. Both the grounds and museum are breathtaking.” — Tara K., Phoenixville, PA

Lower Makefield Community Park

Lower Makefield Township (Bucks County)

“We’ve been going here for years! All of the attractions are awesome, but my daughter, 7, loves what she refers to as ‘the wooden playground’: a large play area, all surrounded by a wooden fence. You can climb castle steps or crawl through smaller tunnels that are under the castle. It connects you to a sandbox, several slides and other cool ways to have fun, including a zip-line! It is designed for kids 5 to 11 years old, but I’ve been bringing my daughter there since she was about 2. She loves the swings and the occasional visit by the local ice cream truck! It’s easy to get to, and even easier to have a great time there!” — Jill S., Newtown, PA

Marini Produce

Wilmington • 302-475-5754

“Marini’s has Norman the pig. Norman lives in a kid’s-sized dollhouse and has a little pen area. The dollhouse has a window and [next to the window] is a mini table and two mini chairs where kids can sit and look at Norman. It is an excellent stop to get fruit, vegetables, breads, pies, flowers, dairy products, homemade goodies and much more. I like to stop and pick up a couple things and the kids get to hang out with Norman, so it’s a win for all of us. No complaining from them about going to the grocery store!” — Kathy Y., Wilmington

Morris Arboretum Garden RailwayMill Creek Park

Willingboro, NJ

“There are two playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic areas and it is a great place for flying kites. There is a large field where kids can run. Also great for picnics by the creek.” — Linda A., Willingboro, NJ

Morris Arboretum

Chestnut Hill/Phila.

“My daughter and nephew love watching all the different model trains in the Garden Railway. They just can’t get enough. I love that the theme changes twice a year and that the buildings change with the theme. The Arboretum in general has appeal all year-round. Adults like to stroll the gardens and enjoy the various plants. Children like to roll down hills, find chipmunks and climb in the Out on a Limb exhibit.” — Carole M., Wynnewood, PA

SMITH The Kids Play Place in the ParkSMITH The Kids’ Play Place in the Park

East Fairmount Park, Phila.

“We just moved to the area and were looking for fun, kid-friendly places in Philly. A friend recommended SMITH. An amazing play area for children 10 and under — and free to the public! The tot lot was perfect for my 4- and 2-year-old children. The giant wooden slide was even fun for me, the mom!” — Danielle H., King of Prussia, PA

"My oldest daughter is 9 and we have been going to SMITH since she was 3-years-old. It is a wonderful, clean playground in the city. The staff is delightful. Of course, our favorite attraction is the huge wooden slide. No other playground I have ever been too has a slide like this (and parents, it is a great attraction to tire children out!) My favorite time to go in on a Tuesday because there are no groups. It is just such a wonderful atmosphere. My three daughters, Julia, 9, Alyssa, 7, and Natalie, 4, and I anxiously await April 1 because we know [that's when] SMITH opens up for the season. There is so much to do and it is a great place for my girls to spend time with one another." –Jennifer M., Phila.

"SMITH is our family of four's favorite place to go on a Saturday morning. It's free fun for both of our kids and we can play along with them! The highlight of the trip is always the wooden slide. The kids love to run up the boardwalk, sit on their burlap bag and fly down the slide. Other highlights are the imaginative playground, perfect for my 2-year-old, and the basement of the mansion, which is full of ride-on toys and roads to drive them on. We always plan to get there as it opens and bring a picnic lunch. That way we can spend all morning, without it being too busy, then have a healthy lunch before the drive home!" – Janet M., Newtown, PA
