Why do Delaware Valley parents like their children’s doctors and dentists?
When asked to recommend their Favorite Docs for children, MetroKids readers offered many reasons. Comments seemed to center on four factors: Care, Communication, Compassion and Convenience.
CARE: "He basically gave back to my son his quality of life after many doctors weren’t able to,” says the recommendation for Charles Vinocur, MD, a pediatric surgeon at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE. “His special interest is the rare disease that my son has and we are so thankful for him.”
COMMUNICATION: Burlington, NJ pediatrician Stephen Niedzwiecki, MD, was recommended because “everything is always so well explained at every appointment. There is never a time when you feel you cannot ask that one more question. No problem is too big or too small to discuss. He makes all of my kids ages 8-15 feel comfortable.”
COMPASSION: When a reader’s son was admitted to the hospital with RSV, Marlton, PA pediatrician Velmina Rivera, MD, “did her best to comfort me. She sat with me in the hospital. She was there as more than just a doctor.”
CONVENIENCE: A reader likes that David Epstein, MD, a Newark, DE pediatrician “has evening and Saturday hours. I can always get a same day appointment,” adding that “I also enjoy that he has a ‘sick’ and ‘well’ waiting room so during well visits we aren’t in contact with any viruses.”

Dr. Dale’s office is very easy to get in touch with in case of an emergency or even after hours and if you need an appointment there is not a long wait like other offices. |

Dr. Light is a Mom and she gets it! She understands both the patient and the parent like she is living it. She's both cautious and aggressive, but most importantly funny and kind. Dr. Ann Masciantonio is a wonderful pediatrician. My kids have been going to her for 3 years. She came highly recommended by a friend and we could not be happier. She likes her job and it shows in everything she does. |

Dr. DiSanto (or Dr. Joe as he is called by my children) is a truly a blessing. He is so knowledgeable, kind, and really takes time with the children and parents. My children are always excited to see Dr. Joe! When the kids are sick and I don't want to wait out, it's easy to set up an appoitment right away with Dr. Eng. Especially during the H1N1 flu outbreak, Dr. Eng spared his time to talk to us about some symptoms and misconceptions. I really can see he puts out his heart to his patients and ensure they get the responsible and quality pediatric care. My four children are all patients of Dr John Gould's and I couldn't be happier. My 8-year-old daughter has special needs and he and his nurses have helped make sure that she receives the best care in their office as well as recommending other specialists. I am sure every patient they see is impressed with their office, staff and excellent care they receive. |

Dr. Epstein is great doctor! One of my favorite things is that he has evening and Saturday hours. I can always get a same-day appointment. It seems my daughter is always getting sick Friday night, so being available on a Saturday is great! I also enjoy that he has a sick" and a "well" waiting room. So during her well visits we aren't in contact with any viruses. |

At Dr. Friedland's office, I am always greeted with a hug and a smile. When my infant daughter had a nasty cough, after a late afternoon appointment at his office he ordered a chest x-ray. Dr. Friedland diagnosed her with pneumonia and knowing that I had a sick child, two other toddlers at home and a husband traveling, Dr. F went to our pharmacy, ordered, bought and waited for the pharmacist to fill a prescription and delivered it to our front door. Wow! |

Also, my daughter had a high fever for a few days, and Dr. Liquido went to the office on a Saturday, just for us, to check my daughter. After many months of uncertainty, Dr. LaVoe was able to get our son's allergies diagnosed and under control. Our son can now sleep with out coughing awake all night and play like a normal child. The entire staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. It is obvious their focus is on my children every time I walk through their door. Being a Mom herself, Dr. Sims has a lot of hands-on experience. She is great with my two boys and they have no fear of the doctors because of her. She makes every visit fun and exciting. Best of all, I love how she listens to every detail about an illness or a symptom from a medication. You can tell she genuinely cares. |

Dr.Pascale Bastien was referred to me when my son was a couple of months old and was having constant sleeping problems, breathing, runny nose and ear infections. We found out that he needed to have his adenoids and tonsils removed. Dr. Bastien referred him to the best specialists at Philadelphia Children's Hospital and the surgery was performed by a wonderful doctor. Dr. Bastien is always helpful and it is never a problem to get a quick appointment. Her staff is great. |

She has helped me keep my son's asthma under control. I love the fact that her practice accepts most major insurance plans, The greatest benefit is same-day sick appointment hour. It is first come first served. We all know children don't get sick by appointment. do they. |

Dr. Joe is always so upbeat and personable with my children. He makes them feel great about themselves. He interacts with them, asks them about themselves and just generally makes each child feel special. They love Dr. Joe! Dr. Joe along with all of the doctors at that location are so patient and listen to everything so they have a complete picture of the problem. They are always able to see you right away when there is an immediate issue and return calls at all hours quickly to calm a scared mom's nerves! |

If you want a doctor who actually cares about your family and treats you like an individual not a production line, Dr. George is perfect. When you go for your visit everyone is on a first name basis. You are treated like family. Dr. performs minor out-patient surgery such as mole removal or sutures — cheaper than going to hospital. You can always get an appointment right away. You get that personal care and attention at Dr. Seretis's without the big bill. |

I started taking my oldest son when he was 4 to see Dr Mike who was referred to us as an excellent chiropractic neurologist. We saw amazing results, and now all four of my kids see Dr. Mike. He's a great doctor, and he's wonderful with children! Dr. Mike has a wonderful bedside manner with kids. He is very kind and gentle. My son has been seeing him for almost 2 years and we've seen a wonderful improvement! |

Doc Bresler’s Cavity Busters |
The staff at Doc Bresler's Cavity Busters is friendly and understanding of a child's nature. From 16 months to 13 years old, all of my children are at ease in the kid-sized dental chairs. Your kids go back to the exam area without you. It's an amazing sight, almost like a Dr. Seuss dream. Vibrant colors, cars, and aquariums are what you'll see. A pager alerts you to consult with the dental assistant, hygienist or dentist. You'll find comfort in knowing their mouths are in good hands, kid-gloved hands. |

"Dr. Ted" is the best pediatric dentist ever! His office is extremely kid friendly (my 5-year-old likes to go just so he can play with the toys — I have never had to "force" him to go to the dentist). His staff are personable and relate extremely well to children. Dr. Ted utilizes top-notch and cutting-edge procedures/equipment and he provides excellent dental care. He has even written some children's books! |

Drs. Ettinger, Zubkof and Kirschner are all fantastic. Unlike many doctors, they aren't quick to throw antibiotics or other medications on symptoms, unless they are truly warranted. In this day and age of over-medicating children and adults, I appreciate their practical approach to providing remedies to my children’s symptoms. |

Anytime I have an issue I can contact the office and have a response within 24 hours. Emergencies have always been answered within reasonable time or immediately through the secretary. |

Dr Langbein is wonderful. He was the first doctor to see our son at just a few days old. He calmed our new parent worries with his professionalism and instantly gained our trust. Our son had torticollis and he was able to get us to see specialists right away and avoided surgery by catching his condition early. Our son is now 4. He doesn't pretend to be any ol' doctor during playtime....he is Dr. Langbein. It's beyond adorable! |

A lovely family-run practice with a kid-friendly waiting room. Even though it is a busy (read popular!) office, your child always gets 100% from Dan. Following a bad experience with a large, impersonal practice, we went to Dan on the advice of a work colleague. What a difference! No more rude reception staff, "leave a voicemail for a call back within 2 hours" or having to practically beg for a sick-child appointment for a very sick child. Dr Dan is the best! |

Considering her complex medical needs, we really needed a doctor who would be totally involved and committed. My daughter has a very complicated medical history, Dr Caboot is so optimistic and encouraging about her outcome. He listens to me and takes his time answering questions and explaining the care plan. Dr. Hwan quickly helped diagnosis my son's allergies and prescribed behavioral changes we could make as well as provided us with some information about hypo-allergy products if we wanted to go down that route. He even had thoughts of a new allergy this year and it was proven true by the tests. Dr. Hwan is easy to speak with and always welcoming of questions. When we had an emergency, he called us back on a holiday within 2 minutes of us leaving a message. It is easy to get regular appointments and he does have some night hours. |

Dr. Rencic is a dermatologist. And she is great! I have taken all four of my children to see her for a variety of reasons. I like her personality and how she deals with the children. She listens/talks to the parent but also speaks to children, not talking over, around or beneath them. Her office is clean and modern and her staff is excellent. |

Dr. Master is the first doctor we call when either of our children are showing symptoms of illness. His training and skill as a chiropractic neurologist has made all the difference in his treatment of our children and their body's response and recovery. He is very knowledgeable and very helpful treating children. Dr. Mike is great with the children. My granddaughter was having seizures when we first starting seeing Dr. Mike. She had been hospitalized and had seen many doctors and was a little scared. Dr. Mike was patient and took his time with her. It's been over a year and she has been seizure-free. He did the same things a neurologist did, but drug free. My son benefits from a chiropractic neurologist due to his history of sensory integration disorder. He specializes in children with all aspects of developmental disability. Dr. Master is always very friendly and talks to my son directly. My son loves going to see Dr. Master and feels better after his appointments. He listens to his patients. He is thorough in all his examinations. He doesn't hestiate to answer any questions. He is a very personable doctor. Dr. Masters is knowledgeble, kind, and one of the very few chiropractic neurologists found in USA. We are very lucky to have him so close by to help our son who has special needs.
Dr. Mike is a chiropractic neurologist who has helped my daughter with a mild form of scoliosis. Her posture has improved and his bedside manners are awesome. Because he is also a functional neurologist, he is helping her with anxiety too. I wouldn't go anywhere else. My son was born with a brain injury and Dr. Mike takes the extra time and works with my son to meet him on his level. Additionally,his specialty of chiropractic neurologist aides in his explanation as to why my son does certain things as he relates it to the nervous system.
Our child was showing signs of obsessive compulsive behavior. The school suggested we try counseling and possibly medication to help him. I was not too happy that he may have to be put on medication. Dr. Mike evaluated our son and believed that he could help him without medicaton. Within a couple of months we could see a difference in our son's behavior, and our son could feel a change within himself as well. How relieved grateful we are that Dr. Mike is in our lives. |
