Your Family Favorite Doctors
— and why you like them. Key reasons: Care, Communication, Compassion and Convenience.
Why do Delaware Valley parents like their children’s doctors and dentists?
When asked to recommend their Favorite Docs for children, MetroKids readers offered many reasons. Comments seemed to center on four factors: Care, Communication, Compassion and Convenience.
CARE: "He basically gave back to my son his quality of life after many doctors weren’t able to,” says the recommendation for Charles Vinocur, MD, a pediatric surgeon at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE. “His special interest is the rare disease that my son has and we are so thankful for him.”
COMMUNICATION: Burlington, NJ pediatrician Stephen Niedzwiecki, MD, was recommended because “everything is always so well explained at every appointment. There is never a time when you feel you cannot ask that one more question. No problem is too big or too small to discuss. He makes all of my kids ages 8-15 feel comfortable.”
COMPASSION: When a reader’s son was admitted to the hospital with RSV, Marlton, PA pediatrician Velmina Rivera, MD, “did her best to comfort me. She sat with me in the hospital. She was there as more than just a doctor.”
CONVENIENCE: A reader likes that David Epstein, MD, a Newark, DE pediatrician “has evening and Saturday hours. I can always get a same day appointment,” adding that “I also enjoy that he has a ‘sick’ and ‘well’ waiting room so during well visits we aren’t in contact with any viruses.”

Dale Collins, DDS |
Dr. Dale Collins created a special doctor-patient relationship with our daughter and now she loves the dentist. This is a huge accomplishment. Dr. Dale’s office is very easy to get in touch with in case of an emergency or even after hours and if you need an appointment there is not a long wait like other offices. |
Gordon Honig, DMD |
Dr. Honig is wonderful and his staff is the best I've ever dealt with in a doctor's office. |
Rachel Maher, DMD |
Excellent hours, flexible and accommodating, and outstanding service! She also has bilingual staff to meet the needs of the fast-growing Spanish community. The staff members are pleasant and flexible. |

Rebecca A. Achterhof, MD |
Dr. Achterhof has a very comforting bedside manner and she can always make my boys smile when they are sick. I never feel rushed when speaking with her whether on the phone or in the office. She always makes sure all my questions are answered and calms my worries. Dr. A has never let me down when it comes to the care of my children and they just love her!!! Dr. Smith always returns calls right away, and always answers all of our questions. As new parents, we have many questions and Dr. Smith never rushes us or makes us feel like we are bothersome. He is wonderful! |
Neil Cohn, MD |
My son has been a patient of Dr. Cohn's for 81/2 years. Over this time, Dr. Cohn has been there for every medical need. Dr. Cohn has a great relationship with my son. Dr. Light is a Mom and she gets it! She understands both the patient and the parent like she is living it. She's both cautious and aggressive, but most importantly funny and kind. Dr. Ann Masciantonio is a wonderful pediatrician. My kids have been going to her for 3 years. She came highly recommended by a friend and we could not be happier. She likes her job and it shows in everything she does. |
Joseph DiSanto, MD |
Dr. DiSanto (or Dr. Joe as he is called by my children) is a truly a blessing. He is so knowledgeable, kind, and really takes time with the children and parents. My children are always excited to see Dr. Joe! When the kids are sick and I don't want to wait out, it's easy to set up an appoitment right away with Dr. Eng. Especially during the H1N1 flu outbreak, Dr. Eng spared his time to talk to us about some symptoms and misconceptions. I really can see he puts out his heart to his patients and ensure they get the responsible and quality pediatric care. My four children are all patients of Dr John Gould's and I couldn't be happier. My 8-year-old daughter has special needs and he and his nurses have helped make sure that she receives the best care in their office as well as recommending other specialists. I am sure every patient they see is impressed with their office, staff and excellent care they receive. |
John Donnelly, MD |
I have 4 children who are patients of Dr. Donnelly. He is exceptional. Always listening, he trusts and respects parents opinions. He also has young children so he can always relate to the conversations. I have never had a difficult time getting a sick appointment. He is thorough, friendly and awesome with kids. |
David Epstein, MD |
Dr. Epstein is great doctor! One of my favorite things is that he has evening and Saturday hours. I can always get a same-day appointment. It seems my daughter is always getting sick Friday night, so being available on a Saturday is great! I also enjoy that he has a sick" and a "well" waiting room. So during her well visits we aren't in contact with any viruses. |
Allen Friedland, MD |
At Dr. Friedland's office, I am always greeted with a hug and a smile. When my infant daughter had a nasty cough, after a late afternoon appointment at his office he ordered a chest x-ray. Dr. Friedland diagnosed her with pneumonia and knowing that I had a sick child, two other toddlers at home and a husband traveling, Dr. F went to our pharmacy, ordered, bought and waited for the pharmacist to fill a prescription and delivered it to our front door. Wow! |
Lauren Healy, MD |
Dr. Healy was highly recommended to us by two different friends last year when we moved to Wilmington. She is wonderful - very down to earth and knowledgeable and has a wonderful bedside manner. She truly empathizes with new parents and draws on her own experiences as a parent when giving advice. She takes the time to talk to us and answer any questions and I feel confident that our son is getting the best care. |
Jennifer Liquido, MD |
I never have to wait long to get my children an appointment when they are sick. Also, my daughter had a high fever for a few days, and Dr. Liquido went to the office on a Saturday, just for us, to check my daughter. Whenever I call the answering service, they are always super fast to return my phone call and alleviate my worries. |
Myria Mack-Williams, MD |
Dr. Mack is our favorite because she is genuine, talks to my child through the visit, is gentle and is also concerned about my well-being so that I can be the best parent I can. She also suggests things I can do to improve any issues I may have re. my child. |
Edward McReynolds, MD |
Has been my kids doctor for 22 years. I have picked insurance companies based on whether or not Dr.Mcreynolds is a provider or not! |
Annemarie Brescia, MD |
Dr. Brescia has been my son's specialist for arthritis for over 4 years. She really cares about my son and spends quality time with us. She even asks about his other medical issues and has helped us get referrals and find specialists. I never wait long at his appointments and Dr. Brescia never rushes us through. |
Charles Vinocur, MD |
Dr. Vinocur is a general surgeon at DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. He basically gave back to my son his quality of life after many doctors weren't able to. His special interest is the rare disease that my son has and we are so thankful for him and actually look forward to visits to him. |

Gerda Augustin, MD |
Dr. Augustin is down to earth. She never rushes but take her time to talk with you and answer her your question. Dr. A is so sweet and I highly recommend her to any mother who is looking for that continuity of care. Most of the time, you can get lost in a large practice with 10 different doctors because you see someone different every time you go to the doctor. Not at DestyOncall Pediatrics. I just love the care I get there. |
Alon Baker, DO |
After many months of uncertainty, Dr. LaVoe was able to get our son's allergies diagnosed and under control. Our son can now sleep with out coughing awake all night and play like a normal child. The entire staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. It is obvious their focus is on my children every time I walk through their door. Being a Mom herself, Dr. Sims has a lot of hands-on experience. She is great with my two boys and they have no fear of the doctors because of her. She makes every visit fun and exciting. Best of all, I love how she listens to every detail about an illness or a symptom from a medication. You can tell she genuinely cares. |
Pascale Bastien, MD, |
Dr.Pascale Bastien was referred to me when my son was a couple of months old and was having constant sleeping problems, breathing, runny nose and ear infections. We found out that he needed to have his adenoids and tonsils removed. Dr. Bastien referred him to the best specialists at Philadelphia Children's Hospital and the surgery was performed by a wonderful doctor. Dr. Bastien is always helpful and it is never a problem to get a quick appointment. Her staff is great. |
Odette Cohen-Martin, MD |
Dr. Cohen-Martin is comfortable with handling infant concerns to teenager issues. Her bedside manner is awesome. She has always been on target with my son's referrals to specialist. She has helped me keep my son's asthma under control. I love the fact that her practice accepts most major insurance plans, The greatest benefit is same-day sick appointment hour. It is first come first served. We all know children don't get sick by appointment. do they. |
Joseph DelGiorno, MD |
Dr. Joe is always so upbeat and personable with my children. He makes them feel great about themselves. He interacts with them, asks them about themselves and just generally makes each child feel special. They love Dr. Joe! Dr. Joe along with all of the doctors at that location are so patient and listen to everything so they have a complete picture of the problem. They are always able to see you right away when there is an immediate issue and return calls at all hours quickly to calm a scared mom's nerves! |
Tanya Kadrmas-Ianuzzi, DO |
Dr. Ianuzzi is one of the best doctors I have ever come across! She is caring, she listens, she takes the time with your child and all around is a wonderful doctor. If my daughter is sick, she brings her right in. She understands that you, the parent, knows your child better than her and if you say your child is sick, they are sick! Her staff, as well as the other doctors are just as great! |
Jennifer McHugh, MD |
She is up to date, on staff at CHOP, you can always get an appointment, has two young children of her own and she listens to your concerns, and is great with children. |
Stephen Niedzwiecki, MD |
He has a great bedside manner. Everything is always so well explained at every appointment. There is never a time when you feel you can not ask that one more question. No problem is too big or too small to discuss. Most importantly he makes all of my kids ages 8-15 feel comfortable. |
Velmina Rivera, MD |
Dr. Rivera has always made us feel so welcome and she really cares about my daughter. She was admitted to the hospital with RSV at 3 months & Dr. Rivera did her best to comfort me. She sat with me in the hospital. She was just there as more than a doctor. |
George Seretis, DO |
If you want a doctor who actually cares about your family and treats you like an individual not a production line, Dr. George is perfect. When you go for your visit everyone is on a first name basis. You are treated like family. Dr. performs minor out-patient surgery such as mole removal or sutures — cheaper than going to hospital. You can always get an appointment right away. You get that personal care and attention at Dr. Seretis's without the big bill. |

Michael Master, DC, DACNB |
I started taking my oldest son when he was 4 to see Dr Mike who was referred to us as an excellent chiropractic neurologist. We saw amazing results, and now all four of my kids see Dr. Mike. He's a great doctor, and he's wonderful with children! Dr. Mike has a wonderful bedside manner with kids. He is very kind and gentle. My son has been seeing him for almost 2 years and we've seen a wonderful improvement! |

Doc Bresler’s Cavity Busters |
The staff at Doc Bresler's Cavity Busters is friendly and understanding of a child's nature. From 16 months to 13 years old, all of my children are at ease in the kid-sized dental chairs. Your kids go back to the exam area without you. It's an amazing sight, almost like a Dr. Seuss dream. Vibrant colors, cars, and aquariums are what you'll see. A pager alerts you to consult with the dental assistant, hygienist or dentist. You'll find comfort in knowing their mouths are in good hands, kid-gloved hands. |
Theodore Croll, DDS |
"Dr. Ted" is the best pediatric dentist ever! His office is extremely kid friendly (my 5-year-old likes to go just so he can play with the toys — I have never had to "force" him to go to the dentist). His staff are personable and relate extremely well to children. Dr. Ted utilizes top-notch and cutting-edge procedures/equipment and he provides excellent dental care. He has even written some children's books! |
Praveena Ganesh, DDS, DMD |
Our whole family goes here. The dental hygienists are wonderful, as is Dr. Ganesh. Both our 4-year-old and 2-year-old are completely comfortable and let them do the full cleaning. The place is clean, they are on-time and it is a pleasant experience overall. |
Margit Maggio, DMD |
Dr. Maggio is wonderful with children! She has a quiet, soothing voice which puts my children at ease. She takes the time to talk to my children, introducing them to all of the dental instruments by name (Mr. Squirty, Mrs. Mirror, etc.). Her motto is "No Surprises." She is very patient and thorough when explaining procedures to parents. Visits to her office never feel rushed and she gives her contact information, including e-mail address, to parents if any questions arise. |
Rose Wadenya, DDS |
She is very gentle and makes my children comfortable when giving exams, needles, fillings etc. Both my children have been patients since 18 mos. of age. |

Saranbir Ahuja, MD |
Dr. Ahuja is wonderful. He is a conservative doctor in terms of applying treatment only after he understands what the situation is. He is very easy to speak with as a parent. My boys (4 and 2) really like him as well; and most important - they listen to what he tells them. You feel like you he is solely concentrating on you. The facilities are clean; they always squeeze you in if it is urgent. |
Anna Marie Carr, MD |
Dr Carr is the most wonderful pediatrician you can find. She is more than a doctor. She takes the time to listen to you, really care about your child. You can see and feel she enjoys her profession. |
Carol Curley, MD |
Dr. Curly is kind, patient and caring. She listens and spends a lot of time with my children at all of our vists, whether it be a sick visit or a check up. She is the best pediatrician I have found. |
Jennifer Diabo, MD |
Dr. Diabo is a great physician. She always takes the time to listen to my concerns, and she readily makes herself available when needed. She is wonderful with my son too!! She is on staff at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, is easy to get an appointment with when needed and has a great office staff. |
Robert C. Duncheskie, MD |
It's a very clean and kid-friendly office. They are very down-to-earth. They will take the time to talk to you, even after-hours. It feels like a family atmosphere. Everyone knows you in the office and they really seem to care and want to help the parent, as well as the child. |
June Elcock-Messam, MD |
Our doctor is caring, friendly, easy going, through, and she takes her time with her patients. |
Denise Fitzpatrick, MD |
She is very personable. Children are very receptive to her and she is very good at what she does. All three of my children, my friends' children and now my nephew are patients there and Dr. Fitzpatrick plays a big part in that. |
Fox Chase Pediatrics |
Drs. Ettinger, Zubkof and Kirschner are all fantastic. Unlike many doctors, they aren't quick to throw antibiotics or other medications on symptoms, unless they are truly warranted. In this day and age of over-medicating children and adults, I appreciate their practical approach to providing remedies to my children’s symptoms. |
JulieAnne Hlavac, MD |
Dr. Hlavac is very caring and compassionate. She is extremely patient with little children. She accomplishes a comprehensive exam while playing with the child and they are having so much fun they don't realize she is examining them. |
Frank King, Jr., MD |
Appointments with Drs. King and Zavod are thorough. They ask many questions about my children's progress, including social, emotional academic, developmental and physical. Anytime I have an issue I can contact the office and have a response within 24 hours. Emergencies have always been answered within reasonable time or immediately through the secretary. |
Jeffrey Langbein, DO |
Dr Langbein is wonderful. He was the first doctor to see our son at just a few days old. He calmed our new parent worries with his professionalism and instantly gained our trust. Our son had torticollis and he was able to get us to see specialists right away and avoided surgery by catching his condition early. Our son is now 4. He doesn't pretend to be any ol' doctor during playtime....he is Dr. Langbein. It's beyond adorable! |
Carol L. Marsh, MD |
Dr. Marsh is a sole practitioner who always tries to fit sick children into her schedule. She is thorough, caring and has great staff. She has always been very helpful, especially when our children have had a few brushes with serious conditions. She is also a mother and that perspective is very helpful. |
Anne McGrorty, RN, MSN, CPNP |
Ann McGrody is absolutely the best. My kids love their annual well-visits and sick visits with her. At the well-visits she consistently reviews safety practices my kids should always follow. She reviews healthy, age-appropriate eating and sleeping routines with them. And she has consistently spotted potential health risks and referred me to the appropriate specialists when necessary. Ann is just great! |
Carl Pullen, DO |
When my oldest daughter was about 6 or 7, when it was time to have her blood drawn, Dr. Pullen came out of his patient's room to access what was going on as my daughter was very loud & animated. He sent everyone away, got down on his knees and took the time to calm my daughter and then proceeded to draw her blood. Over the years this same caring attitude has been exemplified with my two other children. We love Dr. Pullen and the doctors at City Line Pediatrics! |
Daniel Selig, MD |
A lovely family-run practice with a kid-friendly waiting room. Even though it is a busy (read popular!) office, your child always gets 100% from Dan. Following a bad experience with a large, impersonal practice, we went to Dan on the advice of a work colleague. What a difference! No more rude reception staff, "leave a voicemail for a call back within 2 hours" or having to practically beg for a sick-child appointment for a very sick child. Dr Dan is the best! |
Meera Siddharth, MD |
Dr.Siddharth was recommended to me during my daughter's four-month stay in the neonatal unit. Considering her complex medical needs, we really needed a doctor who would be totally involved and committed. Dr. Siddharth calls us when my daughter is admitted to the hospital and when we get home from the stay. She fought for home care nursing when we were denied. She listens to me and allows me to be 100% a part of my daughter's care. Dr Siddharth truly cares for us. |
Scott Tomaine, MD |
Dr Scott is kind and reassuring. He takes his time and doesn't make you feel rushed or crazy for some of the "first time Mom" questions that I asked. His office staff is friendly and calls you back quickly. I have always gotten my son in the same day when he was sick. |
Jason Caboot, MD |
My daughter has a very complicated medical history, Dr Caboot is so optimistic and encouraging about her outcome. He listens to me and takes his time answering questions and explaining the care plan. If he is booked up, he reworks things and fits my daughter in. Whenever we are admitted, he comes to give us a special vist. Most of all, he enjoys getting my daughter to give him a smile or giggle. For parents with special children, it means so much to have people treat you child like any other child. |
Warden Hwan, MD |
Dr. Hwan quickly helped diagnosis my son's allergies and prescribed behavioral changes we could make as well as provided us with some information about hypo-allergy products if we wanted to go down that route. He even had thoughts of a new allergy this year and it was proven true by the tests. Dr. Hwan is easy to speak with and always welcoming of questions. When we had an emergency, he called us back on a holiday within 2 minutes of us leaving a message. It is easy to get regular appointments and he does have some night hours. |
Adrienne Rencic, MD, PhD |
Dr. Rencic is a dermatologist. And she is great! I have taken all four of my children to see her for a variety of reasons. I like her personality and how she deals with the children. She listens/talks to the parent but also speaks to children, not talking over, around or beneath them. Her office is clean and modern and her staff is excellent. |

Michael Master, DC, DACNB |
Dr. Master is the first doctor we call when either of our children are showing symptoms of illness. His training and skill as a chiropractic neurologist has made all the difference in his treatment of our children and their body's response and recovery. He is very knowledgeable and very helpful treating children. Dr. Mike is great with the children. My granddaughter was having seizures when we first starting seeing Dr. Mike. She had been hospitalized and had seen many doctors and was a little scared. Dr. Mike was patient and took his time with her. It's been over a year and she has been seizure-free. He did the same things a neurologist did, but drug free. My son benefits from a chiropractic neurologist due to his history of sensory integration disorder. He specializes in children with all aspects of developmental disability. Dr. Master is always very friendly and talks to my son directly. My son loves going to see Dr. Master and feels better after his appointments. He listens to his patients. He is thorough in all his examinations. He doesn't hestiate to answer any questions. He is a very personable doctor. Dr. Masters is knowledgeble, kind, and one of the very few chiropractic neurologists found in USA. We are very lucky to have him so close by to help our son who has special needs.
Dr. Mike is a chiropractic neurologist who has helped my daughter with a mild form of scoliosis. Her posture has improved and his bedside manners are awesome. Because he is also a functional neurologist, he is helping her with anxiety too. I wouldn't go anywhere else. My son was born with a brain injury and Dr. Mike takes the extra time and works with my son to meet him on his level. Additionally, his specialty of chiropractic neurologist aides in his explanation as to why my son does certain things as he relates it to the nervous system.
Our child was showing signs of obsessive compulsive behavior. The school suggested we try counseling and possibly medication to help him. I was not too happy that he may have to be put on medication. Dr. Mike evaluated our son and believed that he could help him without medicaton. Within a couple of months we could see a difference in our son's behavior, and our son could feel a change within himself as well. How relieved grateful we are that Dr. Mike is in our lives. |
