Winter Weekend Explorations
Looking for a way to relieve cabin fever? Bundle up for a visit to a local nature center, where the whole family can explore the great outdoors together.
Friday Owl Prowls: Look for owls during nighttime hikes at Churchville Nature Center in Bucks County, PA (Fri., Jan. 21) or Green Valleys Association at Welkinweir in Pottstown, PA (Fri., Jan. 28), then warm up by a campfire.
Saturday Nature Series: Starting Jan. 29, Bowman’s Hill in New Hope, PA presents a monthly Saturday afternoon nature program. For $70, you and your child can register for the series, which runs through Nov. 2011. Attend classes together and complete the tasks to earn a “Twinleaf Award.” January’s class focuses on buds and bark in the forest. (Note: $70 covers 1 adult and 1 child ages 9 & younger, kids 10 & older must pay their own $60 class fee.)
Sunday Afternoon Adventures: On Sunday, Jan. 16 you can take a guided walk through the woodlands at Churchville to find hidden nature treasures, or learn all about snow through activities and a walk at Peace Valley Nature Center in Doylestown.
