St. James Parish School in Elkins Park, PA will also close in June.

Two more parish schools, Saint Joseph in Collingdale and Stella Maris in South Philadelphia, will close in June at the end of the school year, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education has announced.

At the end of February, Cardinal Justin Rigali announced that the Archdiocese would keep the two schools open next school year if registration was sufficient. However, Saint Joseph, which needed 200 students to remain open, registered 142 and Stella Maris, which needed 175 students, registered 69. The announcement is the latest in a series of Archdiocesan school closings and consolidations:

Two eastern Montgomery County, PA Catholic parish schools, St. James in Elkins Park and Holy Martyrs in Oreland, will close in June at the end of the school year.

Two other parish schools, Queen of Peace in Ardsley and St. John of the Cross in Roslyn will be combined in September 2010 at the Queen of Peace location, 835 North Hills Ave. The combined enrollment of Queen of Peace and St. John of the Cross has dropped from 507 in 2001-02 to 303 students this year.

St. John Bosco School in Warminster, PA will close in June.

Four other Bucks County, PA schools will consolidate in September: Immaculate Conception and Queen of the Universe in Levittown, St. Frances Cabrini in Fairless Hills and St. Joseph the Worker in Fallsington. The consolidated school will be at the Queen of the Universe location, 2477 Trenton Rd.

Two Philadelphia high schools, Cardinal Dougherty High School in Olney and Northeast Catholic High School in Frankford will close in June. Efforts are underway to convert these schools to private Catholic academies.
