The event joins the region-wide celebration of Walt Whitman: Whitman at 200: Art and Democracy. was a monumental figure in the American art and Literature world, and has been called America’s “poet of democracy.”

The artwork in the exhibition is inspired by such immortal lines as: "I am large, I contain multitudes," "Forever Alive, Forever Forward," and "I celebrate myself and sing myself." The  juried Graduate Student Biennial has a long history of showing work by future resident artists, NCECA emerging artists and major grant recipients.
