Wissahickon Valley Park, Phila.

Philadelphia, from Chestnut Hill to  Manayunk

Within 1,800-acre Wissahickon Valley Park, 50 miles of trails run along the Wissahickon Creek, offering something for every level of hiker & biker. Forbidden Drive, a wide gravel road that parallels the Creek, is closed to cars and open to hikers, bikers, runners, joggers and strollers. More experienced hikers and mountain bikers can try the rugged and steep wooded hillsides.

Mom comment: “I took my kids a few months ago. It’s a great thing to do with them because, not only is it a wonderful physical activity, it’s full of beautiful nature. My little one is 3 and did the trail. It was an awesome hike.”  —  Ivy B., Philadelphia

Along the way: Bring your pooch for a hike and a treat on Dog Day, Aug. 11, 9-11am at the Wissahicken Environmental Center, 300 W. Northwestern Ave. at the park’s northern end.
