The Hipwaders' New CD Rocks

Album: The Golden State by The Hipwaders

In The Hipwaders’ new CD The Golden State, the trio reimagines some best-loved tunes from their live shows for a home
audience. The result is among my favorite CDs of the year. This album for the whole family even includes “My Dog Steve,” whose shoutout in rhythmic patter sounds intimate and universal at the same time.

Opener “Welcome to the Golden State” has a 1967 hippy anthem feel to it at first, then goes into brilliant kid-friendly guitar rock. The highlight is “Stand Up to the Bully,” a rocking song of empowerment which should be required listening to prepare for the new school year.

Download: “B-E-A-C-H”
by Yosi & the Superdads (from Super Kids Rock!)

One listen and I’m a kid back in my mother’s car going to the B-E-A-C-H. This Jersey guy delivers nice California surf sounds in a delightful seasonal song that will get the kids singing in your car. Halfway through, the band takes a turn toward a Bowie sound without getting gimmicky. Yosi represents the high quality of musicians currently playing for families.
