Discover the Jersey shore’s maritime heritage through 17 re-created and historic buildings. Climb into a pirate ship in the Patriot Pirates exhibit, dress up like a commercial fisherman at Crest Fishery and see live horseshoe crabs and other sea creatures from the Barnegat Bay in the nature center. Other highlights include a replica of the Tucker’s Island Lighthouse, which was destroyed in a storm in the 1920s, and a mini-golf course that teaches local history lessons as you play. Did You Know? The Seaport has the world’s largest collection of sneakboxes, a smaller type of hunting boat. The sneakbox was originally designed about three miles from the museum. Tour Tips: Explore the sites yourself or look for docents who can guide you through exhibits. You can also see decoy carvers at work on their wooden birds daily.
