Weekend Planner, Sept. 6

Weekend Planner, Sept. 6

The naval ship Olympia

The first weekend in September looks like a learning experience for the whole family! Museum attractions let you travel the seven seas, try some vintage clothing on for size or take up a painter's palette.

Philly & the 'burbs

Dive into maritime history & culture this Saturday at the "Historic Ships Behind the Scenes Tour" at Philly's Independence Seaport Museum. The tour takes you through Olympia, a naval ship that dates back to the Spanish American War and normally is off-limits to the public.

Celebrate the fall migration of September Songbirds at Norristown Farm Park in East Norriton. Bring binoculars for your kids as they observe and learn about vireos, flycatchers, thrushes & lingering warblers.

South Jersey

Woodstown goes to the dogs this weekend for Fido's Festival USA. For $7-$10, enjoy this 2-day themed festival honoring the family dog. You'll find vendors with the latest dog products, music, food & more.

The FUN-tas-TECH Family Fun Day at Inspira's Tomlin Station Park takes place this Saturday in Mullica Hill. Kids can play Xbox games, try out a magic green screen and enjoy FREE food & giveaways.

Junior fashionistas and their moms will flock to "The Way We Wore" to get a peek at what women wore as far back as the Civil War Era. The vintage-clothing exhibit opens this Sunday at South Jersey Museum of American History in Glassboro and runs through Sept. 29.

This Saturday attend Bigg Kids: Watercolor Fun at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover. Children can explore & learn the history of watercolor painting for FREE, while touring the Delaware Watercolor Society exhibition.

Take the kids to the Delaware Art Museum for the Glory of Stories in Wilmington this Friday morning, where young visitors are introduced to art & able to design their own masterpiece. $3 per child & one adult FREE.
