There's no better place to celebrate Independence Day than the Delaware Valley. The proof is in the sheer volume of patriotic programming and events to be found all weekend long. Check out our extensive roundup here, with a few standouts below:
The FREE Wawa Welcome America! series of events comes to a head Fri. with the Independence Day Parade throughout Historic Philadelphia; the daylong Party on the Parkway with blocks of activities and entertainment for the whole family; and the 4th of July Jam, featuring artists like The Roots, Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande, followed by fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The festivities continue through Sun. at the Camden Waterfront's Freedom Festival in Camden, NJ, where families enjoy military demos and displays and a collection of giant naval-themed Lego models. There'll also be FREE live music, entertainment, amusements and a kids' zone. Stick around for the fireworks over the Delaware River on Sat.; you can even watch them from aboard the deck of the Battleship New Jersey.
Make your own fireworks at the Delaware Children's Museum in Wilmington, DE in celebration of the holiday. Through Sun., families can let their imaginations roam wild during the Open Studio: Firework Art and, in honor of the real pyrotechnics to come, they can dance and jump across the bubble-wrapped gallery floor Fri., creating their own spectacular during Bubble Wrap Fireworks.
