Top Picks This Weekend
Relieve the French Revolution – with a Philly twist! – via song, dance and a famed beheading Sat. during the FREE Bastille Day Celebration, an annual family-favorite festival at the Eastern State Penitentiary. History comes alive with appearances from Napoleon, Joan of Arc, Benjamin Franklin and a life-size French Baguette. What’s more, confetti cannons, stilt walkers, a cardboard horse and the raining down of 2,000 Tastykakes from the towers keep the crowd engaged and entertained.
The competition is on this Sat. in Wildwood, NJ for land- and sea-lovers alike! Grab your buckets and shovels to create works of art during the 2nd annual FREE Amateur Sand Sculpting Festival on the Wildwood Crest Beach, complete with horseshoes, corn hole and live music to keep you going throughout the day. Or take to the water during the Boogie Board Races on the 15th Ave. Beach and see if you can catch the best wave. Prizes will be awarded for both competitions.
Indescribable, indestructible… The Colonial Theatre’s BlobFest — the annual, eccentric, family-friendly festival in Phoenixville, PA celebrating the locally filmed 1958 classic sci-fi movie The Blob — rolls into town Fri.-Sun. Sat.’s FREE StreetFair features plenty of monster-themed fun with a joinable Fire Extinguisher Parade, costume, tattoo & trivia contests, storytelling, a hot rod car show and (for a fee) movie screenings & meet-and-greets with the “real” Blob and its caretaker.
