Philly & the 'burbs

Fore! The Planet, the interactive, indoor mini-golf course at Linvilla Orchards in Media, gives new meaning to the phrase going green. The 18 unique and educational holes explore a variety of environmental issues, from evolution to pollution and dinosaur extinction to butterfly metamorphosis. When it first appeared at Philly’s Academy of Natural Sciences, our editor’s kids had so much fun they played it three times in a row!

Resolutions are notorious for not lasting long into the New Year. But Sat., Norristown Farm Park in E. Norriton wants to help your family start strong with a FREE, brisk, two-and-a-half mile New Year’s Resolution Hike on a paved trail.

South Jersey

Strap on your boots and head over to the Mountain Lakes Preserve in Princeton on Sat. for the Welcome Winter Walk where families will play the Hibernation Game and discover survival strategies for local plants and animals.

Watch your step! On Sat., Audubon Society’s Plainsboro Preserve in Cranbury hosts an Animal Tracking workshop to introduce families to a variety of tracking skills from trailing to clear print classification during an outside field session.

Too cold to stay outside? Sat., visit Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach and celebrate Marine Mammal Appreciation Day with activities and crafts honoring some of the wonders of the water of all shapes and sizes.

Delaware

Keep warm inside the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover this weekend with two FREE events. On Fri., join the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware at the Pegasus ArtWorks Exhibition Opening, where you’ll find artwork and special youth performances utilizing instruments created during the art classes. Come back Sat. with your own chairs, blankets and snacks for a flashlight tour and Family Movie Night showing of Wreck-It Ralph.

Needing some fresh air? Bundle up and take the family out for an afternoon of exploration on an hour and a half hike at Bellevue’s Winter Woods in Wilmington’s Bellevue State Park. Hot cocoa will be waiting for you at the end.
