Food Day 2013

Today is Food Day 2013, "a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies." The following events celebrate the "eating real" movement.

Food Day With the Farm Explorer

Greener Partners' mobile farm (a custom-built trailer with garden beds and a working kitchen) makes a Center City appearance in honor of Food Day.
When: Oct. 24, 10am-12noon

Young People and Food Justice Worksho

The Philadelphia Free Library’s Teen Center will host a workshop about the city’s food systems, healthy eating and urban farming. The event is open to teens from 14 to 17 years old.
When: Oct. 24, 12-3pm

Open House at Doylestown Food Co-op

Doylestown Food Co-op will feature samples of homemade, locally sourced foods and activities for kids.

Eat Real Cape May County Celebration

Slow Food South Jersey Shore’s bonanza includes classes on organic farming beekeeping and canning, a presentation from Rutgers Against Hunger and a Jr. Chef recipe sampling (4:30pm).

Healthy Halloween Snacks

The registered dietitian at the ShopRite in Cherry Hill will teach attendees how to make healthy, fun Halloween-themed snacks.

Harvest Festival

In celebration of the two-year anniversary of Bartram's Garden's Community Farm and Food Resource Center, this free festival will include a hayride, food demos, sack races, face painting, garlic planting, a canning workshop and live music.
