Searching for the un-send button

Searching for the un-send button

I texted my sister-in-law last week to let her know I was available for afternoon school pick up. Her reply: a  question mark.

You see, my-sister-in-law and my next door neighbor have the same name and apparently I texted too soon before confirming I had the right person. I didn't have the right person.

Last month, I texted an old friend, and by “old” I mean that I haven't spoken to her in over three years. I sent her a cheery “LOL- OMG I have something to tell you.”  Curious, she replied “what?” When her name appeared back on my phone, I realized what I had done. I texted the wrong person. I had absolutely nothing to tell her because I didn't intend to text her. And now I was forced to awkwardly ask how she and her family were doing.

In my circle of friends, this rarely happens to me, as I am the only SHIVAUN in the bunch.

And that's a shame, really, because I would love to receive a text not intended for me, just once.

Oh how I would love to read something intended for someone else. A secret, unintended note sitting in my inbox would be a heavenly gift. Not because I am nosy but because I am a writer.

Clearly.

I had absolutely nothing to tell her because I didn't intend to text her.

I am not alone in this, I'm sure.

Last summer, I borrowed a friend's smartphone while awaiting my upgrade. Before returning the phone to my friend, she instructed me on how to delete the history and return to factory settings before returning it as she totally planned to read every text and email left in there, lol. (PS:  I know she wasn't kidding and I thanked her for her honesty.)

I would have done the same thing.

Wouldn't you?
