Play, Create and Get Fit

Inside the Smith Playhouse

Whether they enjoy a simple day of play, embrace their artistic side or exercise, your kids can keep busy this weekend at these local family events.

Play

► Celebrate "Amazing Autumn" with your little ones at Smith Kids Play Place in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. The Saturday morning program features a fall-focused scavenger hunt in the Playhouse and seasonal crafts.

CORA Services in Philadelphia, a non-profit organization that assists children and families, celebrates its 40th anniversary on Saturday with a free-admission festival. Enjoy inflatables, games, music, food and family fun.

► Get a head start on your holiday toy shopping while kids enjoy author storybook readings, a craft activity and Jungle John's Amazing Reptile Show, Saturday at YoYo Joe's Toys & Fun in Wilmington, DE.

Create

Free arts programs for families abound this Sunday:

Queen Village Art Center opens its doors in Philadelphia with an arts celebration that includes make-and-take projects, music for young children, face painting, food, tours and an appearance by the Mummers.

► Explore puppetry through a live show and a hands-on puppet-making workshop at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

The Wayne Art Center presents free art workshops for kids and parents (or grandparents) to participate in together, along with a live concert from the Atwater-Donnelly Duo.

Get Fit

► Kids and adults can compete against tennis pros at Cherry Hill Health & Racquet Club on Saturday. Todd Martin, Mikael Pernfors and other pros play in a Tennis Classic, participate in a Pro-Am for adults and lead a Junior Clinic.

► Two mega fundraiser walks are in town this weekend. Families can walk to raise awareness and funds to fight cardiovascular disease and stroke at the American Heart Association's Heart Walk at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday morning. A walk/run to support Alex's Lemonade Stand takes place at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park on Sunday morning.
