Weekend Planner: Spring Celebrations on Broad Street & Beyond
This weekend, join MetroKids on Broad Street in Philadelphia. An arts celebration fills the street on Saturday, then on Sunday, kids can kick off May with a Fun Run.
A giant Ferris wheel will light up Broad Street on Saturday (yep, you heard us right — a real Ferris wheel!) during the finale of the month-long Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts. Sample French foods, enjoy live music and take little ones to a garden play area at this Parisian-style street fair, held near the Kimmel Center along the Avenue of the Arts.
On Sunday morning, get an early start at the Broad Street Run, where kids can go for a 1-mile "fun run" past the Navy Yard ships on S. Broad. There will also be dashes for all ages, a "Diaper Derby" for the youngest athletes, face painting, a magician and games.
Be sure to look for MetroKids at both events to pick up a copy of the May issue and for a chance to win fun prizes, like tickets to shows and sporting events.
If you can't make it into the city, here are some fun happenings outside of Philadelphia:
• A royal nuptials-inspired spring open house at Meadowbrook Farm in Montgomery County, with a plant sale, herb-planting and games for kids
• Chestnut Hill's annual outdoor festival along Germantown Ave.
• The Delaware Children's Museum first birthday celebration in Wilmington
• Peddler's Village strawberry weekend, featuring pie-eating contests and all sorts of strawberry treats, in Bucks County.
