2014 Valentine's Day Events

In addition to preparing the kids’ shoebox mailboxes for the influx of Valentine’s Day cards and treats, celebrate the holiday with a variety of creative and unique workshops, crafts and events throughout the area.



Fri., Feb. 7

Girls 3-14 and their father figure attend the Daddy/Daughter Valentine’s Dance at the Radnor Hotel in St. David’s for music, dancing, crafts, caricatures and a special rose ceremony.


Sat., Feb. 8

Meet the “Valentine Fairy” as she tells interactive stories, leads sing-alongs, casts love spells and helps kids create personalized valentines during the Children’s Saturday Afternoon Valentine’s Tea at the Radnor Hotel in St. Davids. A selection of food will be provided.

Win Build-a-Bear's My Little Pony Princess Twilight Sparkle by commenting on your favorite Valentine's Day activity below. All commenters will be entered into a random drawing. The winner must pick up the prize at MetroKids' Center City Philly office.

Craft valentines for yourself and the animals, later decorating the zoo with your holiday creations during the Brandywine Zoo’s family workshop Cupid’s Creatures (at right) in Wilmington, DE.

Create custom, personalized gifts including woodblock prints, Valentine’s Day cards, custom tees, soap, jewelry and cookies During the Make Your Philly Valentines craft series at The Department of Making + Doing in Philly. No prior experience needed.

Bug lovers unite! Kids create unique and mysterious valentines during the Insectarium’s Valentine’s Day Guess Who Workshop in Philly.

Make over-the-top, vintage-inspired Valentines using doilies, colored papers and ribbons at the Valentine’s Workshop for Kids at Schwenksville’s Pennypacker Mills.

Taste gingerbread, make a Victorian valentine, write Valentine’s verses with a quill pen and design your own candy bar wrapped during Victorine’s Valentine’s Day at the Hagley Museum & Library in Greenville, DE.


Sun., Feb. 9

Express your love with the language of the ancient Egyptians during the Hieroglyphic Valentines Workshop at Philly’s Penn Museum.

Learn about printmaking processes while using designs by Philly artists to create your own Valentine’s Day cards at the Fleischer Art Memorial’s 14th Annual Print Love-In in Philly. No prior experience needed.

Use simple patterns, colors and embellishments to create your own handmade fleece hat at the Sew in Love! Cozy Valentine’s Hat family workshop (at right) at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA. No prior sewing experience needed.


Wed., Feb. 12

Create one-of-a-kind valentines using card stock, homemade paper and natural materials at Norristown Farm Park’s Nature Valentines Workshop in E. Norriton, PA.

As part of the Delaware Nature Society’s Outdoorsy Mommy & Me series, learn how to cook healthy and sweet treats with your little ones during the Sweet and Healthy Treats for Your Valentine Workshop at Coverdale Farm Preserve in Greenville, DE.


Thurs., Feb. 13

Join Mother Nature’s Valentine Adventure & Tea Party at Schwenksville, PA’s Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy for games, songs, a mystery guest and treats.

Use various printmaking methods to create a variety of Valentines for friends and family during the Valentine’s Day Card Printing Workshop at Appel Farm Arts and Music Center in Elmer, NJ.

Adults Only!

If you find yourself without the kids for the evening, Darlington Arts Center in Garnet Valley, PA has a variety of ways to celebrate the holiday.

Enjoy heart-shaped pizza, a children’s dance party, Valentine’s Day themed crafts and activities in the playspace during Nest’s Tweetheart Social in Philly.

Celebrate with pink pancakes during Valentine’s Day at The Pop Shop in Collingswood, NJ. Kids also receive a coloring sheet and special treat.

Parents can enjoy the evening out while the kids watch a movie, make crafts and play games throughout the Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington, DE, at it’s Valentines Dinner Date Camp.

There won’t be any horse riding at Northwestern StablesValentine’s Pony Party in Philly, but kids will get to glamorize horses, compete in a horseless horse show, make crafts and eat pizza. 


Sat., Feb. 15

Baby Loves Disco’s Annual Valentine’s Day Ball is back at World Café Live in Philly, complete with face painting, sock puppet crafts, freeze dance, dance parties, snacks and juice boxes.

Girl Scouts can celebrate their love of animals with tours, crafts and animal encounters at the Brandywine Zoo’s For the Love of Animals scout program in Wilmington, DE.

Make Valentine’s cards and heart-shaped treats for your favorite animals at Elmwood Park Zoo’s Kiss & Tail event in Norristown, PA.

Get a $1 kiss from one of HeavenSent Rescue’s loveable pals and help the effort to provide care for bulldogs in need at the Puppy Kissing Booth on the Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton, NJ.


Sat. & Sun., Feb. 15 & 16

Go horseback riding for a reduced price on the Sweethearts Trail Ride at Sunset Stables in Bear, DE.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day, Italian style, with crafts, dances and activities during That’s Amore: Italian Style Valentine’s Celebration at Cherry Hill, NJ’s Garden State Discovery Museum.

Take a self-guided, family-friendly “love tour” of famous couples at the Zoo and see zookeepers give special treats to the animals during the Wild at Heart weekend at the Philadelphia Zoo.
